Destination: Omaha-Council Bluffs Metro Visitors, Tourists Spend Millions to Support Jobs, Attractions, Venues
Tourism leaders say the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro is experiencing record growth, with visitors spending nearly $2 billion annually while supporting thousands of jobs, major events, new attractions and continued investment in the region's hospitality, convention and entertainment industries.
The Midwest may not traditionally be families’ top-of-mind vacation destination and it may not feature cities that are top of mind for event planners seeking a host location for major gatherings. Regardless, local leaders in the sector say tourism in the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro area is thriving.
“In 2024, visitors spent roughly $334 million dollars in Pottawattamie County,” said Chris LaFerla, Council Bluffs Area Chamber of Commerce president and CEO. “It’s a pretty important part of the local economy in Pottawattamie County.”
